In our bid to host the 2012 Games, London promised to connect young people with the power of the Games and in doing so inspire them to choose sport. We believe that our mascots will be one of the most powerful ways for us to connect with young people and deliver this promise.
Created from the last two drops of steel used to build the Olympic Stadium, sport is at the heart of the mascots' story.
Along their journey to London 2012, they will travel around the UK, meeting people and learning about all the Olympic and Paralympic sports – always striving to push beyond their personal best. You can help choose where they go in our special competition for schools and decide which sports they learn next in an online poll.
Curious about their names? They are inspired by places at the heart of the UK’s Olympic and Paralympic heritage, Much Wenlock and Stoke Mandeville.
The story of the mascots has been made into an animated film, based on an original story written by Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo. Watch the mascots' film. You can also read about the background to the making of the mascots, including how the names were chosen and their design features, on the London 2012 website.
We hope you enjoy following Wenlock and Mandeville between now and 2012. You can get to the mascots' own website by going to london2012.com/mascots. Log in to become a friend, hear their latest news, talk to them and share photos and videos. |
