The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is incredibly fortunate to be playing a
starring role in this momentous occasion and we look forward to welcoming the world to
our borough.
Add to that the 100 plus community events that are taking place across the
borough between June and September and it is clear that the summer of 2012 is one that
will live long in our memories.

Kingston gets Ready to Welcome Olympic Cyclists In 2012

With an extremely successful Test Event which saw the streets of Kingston lined with spectators we caught just a glimpse of the spectacle to come in 2012. Borough residents and visitors can look forward to 3 action packed days of Olympic Events as cyclists pass through the borough on July 28th, 29th and August 1st.

But thatís not all, there will be a whole host of exciting and fun-filled events taking place throughout Kingston starting with the celebrations of the Queenís Diamond Jubilee on 2nd June right through to 9th September. Full colour Brochures detailing all events and more will be available from May 2012 but if you canít wait until then you can get a preview of whatís to come by viewing the full list of events.

There is a whole host of events happening in Kingston during 2012 in sport, art and culture during the countdown to London 2012 and beyond.
To mark Kingstonís celebrations Kingstonís Cultural Olympiad has brought together a 14 week Programme of Events across Kingston for local residents and visitors to either watch or participate in. This programme will run from 2nd June to 9th September 2012. Many of these events are already well know such as the Dragon Boat Challenge, Kingston Regatta, Thames Open Swim, Carnival and International Youth Arts Festival with some new events taking place such as the Alternate Olympics (one to look out for!)

Volunteers will play a key role in making these events happen, you can volunteer for the event/s that appeal to you and there is no long term time commitment. We canít do it without you so why not be part of something BIG and Volunteer for Kingston.
Registration is easy and is co-ordinated by Kingston Volunteer Centre.

World's Largest Rehearsal Begins A Year Before The Games
Athletes, volunteers and the British public will help the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) go through its paces ahead of the Games next year. More than 10,000 volunteers, 8,000 athletes from more than 50 countries and more than 250,000 spectators will be part of a 12 month rehearsal for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in a programme of test events that run from May 2011 to May 2012.
LOCOGís detailed testing programme, which is branded the London Prepares series, will see some world class sporting events with athletes competing in Londonís iconic existing venues as well as brand new venues in the Olympic Park. More info and details of Test Events

Plans are well underway to offer a 14 week programme of sport, physical activity, art and culture across Kingston and whatís more - you can get involved.

Design a GK2012 Logo

Feeling creative? Kingstonís Cultural Olympiad need a logo to brand its programmes in 2011 and 2012. Open to young people aged up to 25 who attend school/college/university within Kingston yours could be the logo chosen to appear on all of the publicity for our 2012 celebrations plus you will win the chance to visit the graphic design company and watch your logo being created. Closing date for entries is 18th February 2011.
