Richmond Volleyball e-newsletter and 2011 events (Issued Jan 2011)

Welcome to the 19th edition (Sept-Dec 2010) of the Richmond Volleyball e-newsletter (Club Mark 2 Club). We hope that you enjoyed your Christmas and New Year celebrations!  

Firstly, thank you again to all our members, community partners and supporters for your support in 2010! It was a very busy and challenging year and thankfully Richmond Volleyball continued to manage the supply of volleyball to nearly 4,000 people through our numerous inclusive community activities in South West London ranging from Recreational, Schools, Sitting, Local league, Regional League, and Elite junior and adult programmes.

 We are still looking for more volunteers to get involved and support the club, so if you’re passionate about developing and promoting volleyball with us, come and join us!  Sport Matters – Building a Volleyball Club that values community, excellence & performance in South West London and Surrey.

·         Just 4 Women Festivals (FREE – Feb TBC ) – Kingston (TBC)

·         PL4S Junior Training (4 weekly sessions for u11 to u18) - various

·         Change 4 Life (FREE = 1 weekly session for u11 to u16) – Feltham CC, Hounslow – 3.30pm

·         Saturday Junior Development Centre restarts (15th, 22nd, 29th Jan) – Kingston Arena, Kingston – 2.30pm

·         U16 London Regional Girls Squad training (Sat 15th Jan) – Kingston Arena, Kingston

·         National League Div 1 Home fixture v’s Leicester VC (15th Jan – 5pm) – Christ School, Richmond – 5.30pm

·         National League Div 1 Home fixture v’s Wessex VC (Sat 22nd Jan – 5pm) – Christ School, Richmond – 5.30pm

 COMPETITIONS REVIEW

 Richmond National League Team (Men)

In their 1st season in National League Division 1 the team is gaining valuable experience and training hard as they continue to develop as a competitive National League squad.  They are currently 6th in the league (won 3 and lost 6). Next home match on Sat 15th Jan, 22nd Jan, 5th March and 26th March. Come and Support us at Kingston College Arena. We always welcome new members to train at this level.

 Richmond Regional Teams (Men and Women)

The London Premier League men’s team is going strong sitting second in the league (won 5 and lost 1) and the Surrey Men’s Division 1 team are also going strong positioned 3rd (won 3 and lost 2). London Division One women’s team are holding mid table (won 3 and lost 3) and Surrey Women’s Division 1 team are 5th (won 1 and lost 3).  

 South London (Local) Volleyball League

In its third season the SLVL held at Richmond College (Twickenham) is again well supported by 14 mixed local adult and junior teams - 180 players. We are using this league to develop our junior players and they are doing well. We have junior tournaments scheduled for 14th Feb, 11th April and 25th April.

 Richmond Junior’s (National)

Congratulations to the U18 Junior Girls who qualified to the ¼ of the National Junior Cup.  Unlucky for the u18 Boys, u16 Boys and u16 Girls who were knocked out in the 2nd rounds. The U15 Boys and Girls Competitions will be held in February and will be entering five u15 boys and 2 u15 girls.

 Volleyball England Junior Cadets and Regional Players

Three u16 Richmond Boys were invited to train for the first time with the u16 National Junior Boys Volleyball Squad at the National Volleyball Centre (Kettering). This is the highest performance programme for the most talented u16 junior players in the country.  One u16 Richmond Girl is training with the South England Girls Squad and 8 girls are training with u16 London regional squads. Well done!

 School Volleyball Programme

Last term (Sept to Dec) Richmond coaches coached in 43 secondary schools across four London boroughs (Richmond, Kingston, Hounslow & Hammersmith and Fulham) and delivered three u15 borough tournaments.  The top two teams from each borough qualified to the u15 South London and u15 West London School Volleyball Finals. Congratulations to the following teams who qualified.  Boys: Hampton Boys (Richmond); Hampton Academy (Richmond); Hollyfield (Kingston); Tiffin Boys (Kingston); Chiswick (Hounslow); Longford (Hounslow). London Oratory (Hammersmith & Fulham). Girls: Grey Court (Richmond); Waldegrave (Richmond); Tiffin Girls (Kingston); Commbe Girls (Kingston); Hounslow Manor (Hounslow); Green (Hounslow).
