delighted to announce
that the 2012 Referees
and Coaches Course
schedule has been
released.
We pride
ourselves at delivering
quality referee and
coaching courses and
believe the 2012

courses from January to
June are currently
advertised, while the
referee dates are for
the Spring, however more
courses will be added
when they are confirmed.

coaching course fees
remain the same as last
year except for the
Safeguarding and
Emergency Aid which have
increased by £5 to all
but Charter Standard
Club members. An extra
discount has been
included for Charter
Standard club coaches on
Level 2 courses, priced
at £325 instead of £375.

The Kids Are
Alright |
|
After a plea from
children in Surrey
asking for more social
activities in the
evenings and weekends,
one resident from South
Godstone has responded
by setting up a new
football team, and
despite his only
coaching experience
coming from celebrated
PC game Championship
Manager, Colin Williams
is ready for the
challenge. |
|
You only have to scan a
newspaper and youd be
under the impression
that every teenager is
pregnant, looting,
smoking, drinking, or
all of the above.
|
And while the
recent rioting
in London,
Manchester and
closer to home
in Croydon has
fuelled this
view, the
general opinion
from Britains
youth themselves
is that they all
dont want to be
tarred with the
same brush.
This belief
is no more
apparent than in
South Godstone,
near Redhill,
where following
several years of
struggling for
things to do
outside of
school, these so
called
"tearaways"
decided to take
action. With the
help of youth
workers, local
teenagers put
together several
posters and
dropped them
through
residents doors,
requesting help
to set-up
activities to do
in their spare
time.
IT
consultant Colin
Williams, whos
lived in the
area for the
past six years,
answered the SOS
call, and so
began his foray
into junior
football
management with
South Godstone
Youth FC.

Surrey FA
Spotlight |
 |
Welcome to a new feature
in our EZine, the Surrey
FA Spotlight. Each month
well be focusing on
someone from the County
who has made a memorable
contribution towards
football in Surrey, such
as starting a new club,
offering outstanding and
continued service or an
individual who has an
interesting story to
tell.
This
month, Surrey County FA
spoke to 26 year old
Kenny Antonio. After
finding himself homeless
some years ago, Kenny
turned his life around
and now is the captain
of Pitstop Wanderers, a
dedicated team of young
people set up by
homeless shelter The
Pitstop in
Leatherhead....

"Im
originally from
Barbados and
moved to Brixton
when I was 7. It
was a bit of a
culture shock,
not least of all
the change in
weather! I dont
really get back
to see my family
much as its
quite expensive,
although Im
saving up and
hope to fly over
next year.
I started
playing football
(Im a
goalkeeper) when
I started
secondary school
in Westminster.
The pitches were
amazing. After
school I started
working at Moss
Bross and worked
my way up to
Assistant
Manager. After
that I did
several other
jobs in retail,
at O2 and Suits
You in Kingston.
Im a
generous guy and
like treating my
friends to this
and that and
this proved to
be my downfall.
A lot of
people become
homeless after
they fall into
drink or drugs,
but my problem
was spending....

Match
Proves a Winner
in Memory of
Michael |
|
Premier League
side Fulhams
state-of-the-art
training ground
played host to a
memorial match
last week, as
Pitstop
Wanderers (a
team for the
homeless and
unemployed) took
on a side
representing the
Michael Varah
Memorial Fund.
|
|
The Wanderers, a
dedicated team
of young people
set up by
homeless shelter
The Pitstop in
Leatherhead, ran
out 3-2 winners
on the day in
the magnificent
surroundings of
Motspur Park in
Surrey on Sunday
11th September
2011. |
|
Their opponents,
playing on
behalf of the
Michael Varah
Memorial Fund
(MVMF), who were
start up
sponsors of
Pitstop
Wanderers in
2010 and
continue to fund
the team, played
their part on
the day, with
all five goals
coming in an
exciting second
half of
football.
Chair of
Trustees for the
MVMF Sally Varah
commented:
"Pistop
Wanderers
continues to
have a really
positive impact
on disaffected
and marginalised
young people. I
would like to
say a big thank
you to the
brilliant Surrey
County FA and
Football
Development
Officer Steven
Edwards for
working with us
to establish
Pitstop
Wanderers in the
first place and
now helping to
set up this
match, and also
to Fulham for
letting us use
their superb
facilities."
Meanwhile
Pitstop Sports
Coordinator
Helen Dean
added: "After a
huge amount of
organisation and
support from the
Michael Varah
Memorial Fund,
it really was a
day to remember.
The lads have
simply never
been able to
experience
anything like
that before - in
fact they havent
stopped talking
about it since!"

9v9 Football Launches in Surrey Youth League
|
|
The Surrey Youth
League (SYL)
season got
underway on 11th
September 2011
which for the
first time
included a new 9
v 9 format for
the Under 11 age
group. |
|
With over 80
teams competing
the new format
has proved
extremely
popular amongst
players, parents
and coaches
alike. |
|
The initiative
is a result of a
successful
partnership
project between
the SYL and
Surrey County
FA. As part of a
review of youth
football, the FA
are consulting
on making 9 v 9
football
compulsory for
the 2014/15
season and the
SYL believe the
time is right to
go that way now
in advance of
this decision.
League
Secretary Frank
Thompson said:
"9 v 9 football
is the ideal
pathway for
youth teams as a
transition
between Mini
Soccer and the
11 a side game.
The format
offers a
stepping stone
for the learning
and development
of players, with
pitch sizes and
goalposts being
more appropriate
to their age,
which promotes
more touches of
the ball, more
dribbling
opportunities as
well more goal
scoring
chances."
One of the
first games
played saw
Barnes Eagles
take on Sutton
United at Barn
Elms Playing
Field. And
despite the
Eagles going
down six nil,
Welfare Officer
Judith Enright
was full of
praise for the
new smaller
sided game. She
said: "The jump
from 7 a side to
11 a side was
just too big.
The goals and
pitch were
enormous, while
there were
almost double
the players on
the pitch. It
can be a big
shock and they
can t really
communicate on
the pitch, but
9v9 football
lets them get
used to the
larger game
gradually."

It takes a lot
